County Dismisses Allegations of Unfairness on Markets

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has been at the forefront of the provision of a reliable and conducive working environment for traders through market upgrades.

These are some of the sentiments made by the County Deputy Governor H.E Daniel Chemno when he hosted a delegation from the national cohesion and integration commission.

Uasin Gishu County traders are alleged to have been lamenting over the County’s efforts of providing an enabling environment for every business person.

The big concern is believed to have been the County’s move of renovating the main wholesale market which saw all the traders evicted to pave way for the exercise which has brought up complaints on the criteria of allocating stalls when the market renovation is completed

According to the NCIC representative Jackson Gitonga, complaints reached them on grounds of the County administration not willing to use the right procedure install allocation.

“We decided to come and seek answers from the horses mouth on allegations that some communities will be excluded from the market stalls” said Gitonga.

“….It is our mandate to ensure inclusivity in all areas “he added.

And when asked by the author of this piece about the findings of the allegations, Gitonga said every trade project is well implemented and there are no attempts to exclude some communities.

On their part, County Secretary Edwin Bett and ICT, Trade and Industrialization Dr. Emily Kogos said there is a notably good working conditions between the administration and the business community.

The duo further led NCIC delegation to visit the wholesale market, the hawkers market and finally the proposed construction of the Bahati market in Kimumu Ward.

County Attorney Stephen Lel, Chief Officer Trade Simeon Tanui, Trade director Kipleting Mengich were present.
