COUNTY CONDUCT WAREHOUSE RECEIPT SYSTEM TRAINING

COUNTY CONDUCT WAREHOUSE RECEIPT SYSTEM TRAINING

The County Government of Uasin Gishu Department of Agriculture Livestock Development and Fisheries on Monday hosted a two-day workshop on Warehouse Receipt System (WRS) at an Eldoret hotel.

In the workshop, Ward Agriculture Officers were trained on how the system works thus equipping them with sufficient knowledge and techniques. The officers are expected to be brand ambassadors to the farmers.

Speaking during the workshop, Agriculture Chief Officer Julius Rotich said that the WRS will offer better prices to farmers, reduce forced selling of farm produce at low prices, increase lending to the agricultural sector by providing security as well as reduction of post harvest losses through modern storage.

Rotich said that the system allows the County to develop and implement strategies to facilitate utilization of warehouse system by smallholder farmers and create a support mechanism to facilitate access to the warehouse by all farmers in the County.

He further added that the county-owned cereal stores has a capacity to hold over 200,000 bags and when these stores are utilized it will promote farmers confidence.

Lucy Komen from Warehouse Receipt System Council says that the farmers will be guided to make informed decisions about the system because they are able to regulate the functions of the operator.
