Counties have been asked to partner with the national government in a bid to strengthen Kenya’s music and cultural initiatives.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the 90th Kenya National Music and Cultural Festival (KMCF), the cabinet secretary for sports, culture and the arts Dr.Hassan Wario said Kenya is rich on matters sports and culture and therefore need for counties to work closely with the government in moving the sector ahead.
“The ministry is working on uplifting the nation’s culture.We have to unite and focus on avenues that keep our togetherness as brothers and sisters”said Wario
“The event is an epic and culmination that takes place in all communities across the country”he added
And on matters of best performance and rankings, the county government of Uasin Gishu emerged among the top three counties after Kakamega and Kwale counties on the first and second positions respectively.
Uasin Gishu with a total of 11 sponsored groups managed to secure a total of 7 trophies
The county choir got 3 medals,Kalya traditional dancers obtained 3 medals while Segeriet traditional dancers were awarded 1 medal.
This awards won was as a result of the best dance Pokot/Turkana class 904 XYZ, the best folk song 704 XYZ, the best in Kalenjin fork song 703 XYZ, the best county choir, the best adaptation of African spirituals, the best Pokot Marakwet fork song class 516.
The groups were further awarded certificates on how they performed according to different classes.
