Uasin Gishu County Governor H.E. Hon. Jackson Mandago on Friday officiated the closing ceremony of the four-day cooperatives leaders seminar on Corporate Governance at St John Pastoral Centre in Langas.
Giving his keynote address to the society’s leaders, H.E reiterated his support for cooperatives and noted that through capacity building, management of farmers cooperatives will improve hence eradication of poverty.
“We value cooperative movement as a County Government and we will do all we can to support you.” Added H.E the Governor.
He also urged the farmers to embrace diversification, manufacturing and value addition and encouraged them to benchmark amongst themselves.
The CECM in charge of Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Ms. Esther Mutai who had earlier taught on strategic management urged the society officials to uphold high standards of integrity and take good care of members shares.
The CECM for Agriculture Mr. Samuel Yego promised to work hand in hand with the farmer’s cooperatives in providing professional services.
CO Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Mr. Isaac Lagat, Cooperatives Commissioner Ms. Roselyne Rae, Cooperatives Audit Officer Mr. Wambugu, Ag Director Druscillah Cherogony were the facilitators from the department.
The 90 trainees were farmers leaders from Ainabkoi, Kesses and Soy Sub Counties.
They were equipped with skills in corporate governance, ethics and integrity, ICT management systems, audit, strategic and financial management as well as effective methods of marketing.
