Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has lauded The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) for its efforts in enhancing consumer awareness countrywide. He said this on Thursday at his office premises when he hosted a delegation from the CAK led by their Consumer Manager Juma Ooro. The team came to pay a courtesy call and seek partnership for the upcoming World Consumer Awareness Day to be held on 15th March 2020.
We commend your efforts in monitoring Kenya’s media landscape, out of it we have seen you helping other government agencies in the fight against fraud and abuses carried out through mobile telephone networks and social media”, Chemno said.
During the three day exhibition, Mr Ooro, said that they will also focus on highlighting lifestyle changes that will help consumers play their part in limiting global warming.
The County Executive for Trade & Industrialization Dr Emily Kogos said that consumer awareness plays a very important role in helping her Department curb counterfeit of goods and services. Her department has been tasked with establishing a working committee for this event. Chief Officer ICT john Kemboi, also present said that the event will also be used to showcase ICT based innovations by local youth.
Consumer Awareness Week is held to inform users and consumers of mobile phones, ICT solutions, gadgets, the internet and media content on their rights. In the last few years, there have been several efforts to protect Kenyans from exposure to telecom and internet-related fraud and various forms of abuses.
