A representative from the National Council of People living with disabilities of Kenya (NCPK) has lauded the County Government of Uasin Gishu for being on the fore front of advocating for the rights of people living with disabilities. (PLWDs)
Mr. Titus Yego said this during the annual commemoration of People Living with Disabilities, an event that is marked every 3rd of December.
According to the officer, a bill drafted by the Executive was passed at the County Assembly a move that has paved light in the livelihoods of the PLWDs.
“Another bill is at the advanced stage only waiting for the approval by the MCAs” added Yego.
Uasin Gishu County has been issuing funds to PLWDs from the financial year 2015.This has been lauded by stake holders as a bold step towards the achievement of Vision 2030.
“Despite being the National Government function, we also come in as the County Government with the little that we can so as to add value to the lives of our residents (PLWDs)” said Joseph Kurgat who is the newly appointed County Executive Committee member in charge of Education,Culture,Social Services,Youth and Sports.
It should be noted that H.E Governor Mandago’s administration has been on the forefront of pushing for reforms so as to improve the livelihoods of PLWD’s. For instance, the Governor offered free parking in Eldoret town to be used specifically by disabled in the year 2016.
The County has further employed some of the disabled persons at the County Headquarters as cleaners hence giving them a steady source of income.
