BIASHARA CENTRE OPEN IN UASIN GISHU COUNTY

Uasin Gishu County residents are set to benefit after the North Rift Biashara Centre that was officially commissioned today in the county, the first of its own kind outside Nairobi.

The Biashara centre, which is an area designated by the Ministry of Industrialisation, Trade and Enterprise Development, aims at improving the economic well-being of the region and KEBS will be the host.

Under the Biashara Centre umbrella, it will be comprised of KEBS which will advise and gives standards, Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) which will assist in incubating technical ideas of SMEs and Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI) that will register innovations and MSEA whose task is giving technical advice on entrepreneurship skills and linking Small and Medium enterprises to the outer world.

Speaking during the event, Chief Administrative Secretary, Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development Mr. Lawrence Karanja reminded on the importance of the Biashara Center terming it a long-term project that will assist in the future.

We are launching the Biashara Centre and it will be a great addition to the SMEs. The inauguration of Biashara Centre resonates with the country’s manufacturing Agenda with MSEs contributing 33% of GDP. When the SMEs want a documentation for their operation, it will be easier, efficient and cost-effective. With the coming of the centre, which is one of its own outside Nairobi, there is no longer a need to travel all the way to Nairobi but rather all services will be in one room. Basically, this is a project which is being brought to the grassroots and mwananchi will really benefit from this, said Mr. Karanja

We have also had discussions with the Governor and we have agreed one officer will be sent here and will be in charge of issuing licenses, added the CAS.

ICT, Trade and Industrilization County Executive Committee Member Dr. Emily Kogos said that the County Government will walk together with the National Government in this journey.

We endeavour to make Uasin Gishu County the best environment for business. We really appreciate for making Uasin Gishu County the host and we promise a seamless operation between the National and the County Governments, Dr. Kogos said.

The KEBS Managing Director, Lt. Col (Rtd.) Bernard Njiraini had much praise for the Biashara Centre mentioning it as a good idea which is meant to bring services closer to both SMEs and manufacturers.
