Appeals for peace and cohesion ahead of the campaigns stint featured in speeches as Uasin Gishu County marked the Jamhuri Celebrations on Monday.
H.E Governor Jackson Mandago, his deputy H.E Daniel Chemno and County Commissioner Mr Abdi Hassan led the colorful celebrations held at Eldoret 64 Stadium.
H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta’s speech was read out by the County Commissioner and put weight on the need for Kenyans to keep peace and shun politicians who propagate hate.
“Kenya has come from far and we always pray that we do not slip back to past politically instigated hostilities,” said Governor Mandago.
With about two months to the start of the campaigns for 2017 general poll, Kenyans are being urged to uphold peace.
Politicians on the other hand are asked to keep off from divisive utterances that could cause tension.
A minute of silence was observed to remember victims and grieving families of Kenyans who perished in Saturday evening’s Naivasha horrific accident.
