ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE CHAMPIONS

After clinching first spot in several undertakings, the County Government of Uasin Gishu continues to stretch constitutional adherence with employment of Persons With Disabilities.

The administration has in the past managed to pioneer a number of programs to achieve inclusivity and most importantly live by the spirit of devolution.

Speaking in his office, Uasin Gishu County Public Service Board Chairman Mr. Joseph Tanui said that his team carried out an assessment of the existing staff and the findings indicated that the PLWD workforce fell short of the 5% stipulated by law. It is these findings that informed a decision to advertise for positions that were ring-fenced for people living with disabilities. The 34 candidates were successful in the recruitment process.

“Uasin Gishu County Public Service Board in its operations is guided by all existing laws of the Country; more specifically, chapter 10 of the Constitution which talks about national values and principles of governance and inclusivity.” Said the board chair.

Mr. Tanui added that the board received a total of 109 applicants where 61 were shortlisted and 34 were successfully appointed for various positions according to their areas of specialization.

Uasin Gishu deaf community have also been engaged to carry out other manual duties including cleaning offices at the County’s headquarters.
