County Government of Uasin Gishu on Friday organised a beauty contest for People Living with Disabilities (PLWD) in conjunction with the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK).
Speaking during the function held in Wagon Hotel, The Chief Officer for Sports and Youth Affairs Ms. Eunice Kerich applauded the participants for demonstrating that they are abled differently.
“PLWD’s are special and can do better than others. Let us give them opportunities according to their abilities to work and earn a living” noted Ms. Kerich.
The organising secretary, Mr. Dan Koech highlighted the critical role people with disability play in building the nation.
“ We want to change our name to be people with different abilities owing to the fact that we are abled differently” Added Mr. Koech.
The five categories for the contest were; The deaf community, Albinism, Short stature, Wheel chair and the Physically challenged. Winners are expected to enter into the National competitions where the best will represent the Nation in World competitions to be held in the United Kingdom.
