Governor Jackson Mandago EGH has called on the National Treasury to consider increasing the funding for the universities and research institutions to propel innovation in the country.
Speaking during the 9th Annual International Conference and Exhibition at Eldoret National Polytechnic, Mandago said by doing so, the research institutions will be able to innovate products to the market which will be competitive to the other countries.
‘If we want to live up as nations in terms of industrialization, we must fund universities and Agricultural research institution for them to do research and produce new products into the market,” he said.
Mandago further expressed the need to involve manufacturing industries in research conferences and on their side consider such events, adding that the companies can, in turn, improve their products.
“The industry players should use the research institutes to scale up their products. Research plays a vital role in their businesses and there is a need for them to link together, that’s is what happens in developed countries,” said the county boss.
He further called for the safeguarding of researchers’ and innovators’ materials so they are not copied and plagiarized.
Mandago said innovations should be used to solve the problem facing the country such as food security, health, and climate change, among others.
The four-day conference brings together researchers and innovators across the country.
