The County Government of Uasin Gishu has a plan to increase Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital’s ICU capacity.

A recently signed agreement between MTRH and Uasin Gishu County, in one of the clauses, says the latter will purchase six ICU beds to increase the facility’s keen-care accomodation.

Speaking during a funeral service in Sugoi,Turbo Sub-County on Thursday evening, H.E Governor Jackson Mandago said the County will deliver the equipment before April.

The County’s plan is among the many deliberate steps to improve the health sector which affects the success of all other departments; the maxim “a healthy people is a healthy and hardworking nation”.

The County Chief also reiterated plans for the Jubilee Government to establish a much bigger Ksh 32 million referral hospital in Eldoret.

This facility, he says, will have more bed capacity and in turn pave way for MTRH to be run by the County.

MTRH is Kenya’s second largest referral hospital after Kenyatta, but its ICU capacity seems overwhelmed as serves about seven regions.

“Then we shall not grapple with issues of less ICU capacities anymore. Kenyans will also be relieved as they will not need to go to expensive private facilities,” said the Governor.

The groundbreaking for construction of the new referral facility will also be done soon, the Governor said.
